Members of the Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Co were recognized with a Proclamation from the Twp of Shamong during the October 7 Township Council Meeting held at Town Hall. The Proclamation was awarded in recognition of the company’s response to a vehicle fire on September 20 at the intersection of Oak Shade Rd and Indian Mills Rd. While travelling through the intersection a vehicle erupted in flames and came to rest in the immediate vicinity of the La Campagnola restaurant, with the flames igniting nearby shrubbery and threatening the structure. Responding to the incident were 1st Assistant Chief Robert Mitchell, Lt. Charles Burgin, Lt. Josh Davenport, FF Andy Roppoli, Fire Police Captain John Lyons, Junior FF Elijah Goldstein, and Junior FF Samuel Schmitz. Additionally, Tabernacle resident Rob Yetter, who witnessed the incident, quickly retrieved a fire extinguisher from the nearby Wawa and began fire suppression efforts while waiting for our crews to arrive. Their swift and heroic actions quickly brought the fire under control before it was able to extend to the structure or cause any additional damage beyond the vehicle itself. The core mission of the fire service is to protect life and property and our members embodied this mission in every regard during this incident.
Thank you to Mayor Michael DiCroce and the entire Shamong Twp Council for your recognition of our members and our department! The proclamation hearby declared October 7 as Rob Yetter and Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Co Day!
